25 new COVID-19 cases reported in Windsor-Essex, three new deaths

Health officials in Windsor-Essex reported 25 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday and three additional deaths.

The additional cases bring the regional case count to 12,956 and the death toll to 382.

The latest fatalities were two men in their 70s and a man in his 90s. All three individuals were from the general community.

The transmission source of 10 cases are still under investigation, nine are from close contacts of confirmed cases, three are outbreak-related and three are community-acquired.

Meanwhile, 26 more people recovered from the virus in the region over the past 24 hours. A total of 12,317 of the cases in Windsor-Essex are listed as being resolved with 257 cases currently active. 50 people in the region are hospitalized as of Saturday due to the virus.

There are currently four long-term care or retirement homes and four workplaces in COVID-19 outbreak. There is also two hospital outbreaks and two community outbreaks.

The latest figures come a day after it was announced that the Windsor-Essex region will remain in the red-control level of the Reopening Ontario Framework.

As of Saturday, a total of 26,349 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents

Elsewhere, health officials in Ontario recorded 1,185 additional cases on Saturday and 984 more resolved cases.
