The Medical Officer of Health for Huron Perth Public Health says people who receive the COVID-19 vaccine should still practice public health measures.
That includes wearing masks and social distancing.
Dr. Miriam Klassen explains at this point, there is no evidence that vaccine will prevent people from becoming asymptomatically infected.
“So, if you're vaccinated, however you're still infected, you just don't have any symptoms, you don't know it, you are capable of transmitting it," said Dr. Klassen. :It's likely that vaccination does prevent asymptomatic infection because it usually does with other vaccines, but we don't know that yet.”
She adds the goal is still to have everyone in Canada, who wants a vaccination, vaccinated by the end of the September.
“So, at this time while there's still so many in our population who are not vaccinated, we need to continue these public health measures and with time we'll be able to learn more and see the kind of immunity that vaccination does lead to," added Klassen.
