The Essex Region Conservation Authority has made the "difficult" decision to close the Hillman Marsh Conservation Area for May.
And, it may shut down other conservation areas in the region too if people do not comply with social distancing measures.
"If we find that people are not complying with these posted rules, we will be forced to close our conservation areas," said Director of Conservation Services Kevin Money.
Hillman Marsh is a popular spot for bird watchers at this time of year. However, Money said the authority felt it was prudent to close it to the public.
Kopegan Woods closed now for parking lot repairs, will remain closed until the end of May.
Gathering and loitering at all conservation areas is prohibited during the pandemic. Aside from Hillman Marsh, they are open for travel-through access like walking and cycling. Trail users must maintain at least two metres of space between themselves and other trail users.
Because of the pandemic, the authority has not been able to hire more summer maintenance staff, so only basic maintenance is being conducted in conservation areas and greenways. It is critically vital users properly dispose of garbage.
