CK's Community Development manager accepts new position

A Chatham-Kent official whose tenure has spanned nearly 10 years, has accepted a new position outside of the municipality.

John Norton, Chatham-Kent’s general manager of Community Development, accepted a job as the chief administrative officer for the Township of Georgian Bluffs and will be leaving his current position on August 1.

“It is with mixed emotions that I step away from my current position to take up a new challenge and opportunity," Norton said in a news release. "I have loved this job. I love this community and I hope it will be said that I contributed something. I am incredibly grateful for the team members who have supported me and helped me find success.”

Norton and his team recently developed the CK Growth Strategy and helped with business economic recovery during the COVID-19 crisis. Norton also helped bring together the Economic Recovery Task Force.

“Since joining the municipality in 2011, John has served the community very well, first as our chief legal officer and more recently as the GM of Community Development where he has played a key role in developing our growth strategy and in supporting the Community Development Advisory Committee chaired by Councillor Aaron Hall," said Chatham-Kent CAO Don Shropshire in a news release on Thursday. "We wish him the very best in his new role.”

Shropshire said he will be discussing Norton's replacement with municipal council at a later date.
