The investigation is still ongoing, though, and anyone with tips should contact Constable Mark Smith at marksm@chatham-kent.ca or 519-436-6600 extension #87162.

More than a dozen charges laid after police find stolen truck

Chatham-Kent police have also tracked down a pickup truck that was reported stolen from a residence on Grand Avenue East in Chatham last week.

Officers said the red 2011 Ford F-150, which had a white Philadelphia Flyers decal in the rear window, was spotted in the area of Grand Avenue and Elizabeth Street Tuesday afternoon.

But when the officer who saw it tried to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly took off at a high rate of speed down Selkirk Street. Police called off the chase temporarily for public safety reasons, but they managed to catch up with the driver after he pulled the vehicle up onto the front lawn of a residence in the area of Selkirk Street and Hillyard Street and took off running.

Investigators said the suspect was arrested after a short foot chase.

While police were searching the man, they allegedly found some suspected crystal methamphetamine on him along with some fentanyl and some cash. Officers said the man also had a flick knife in a backpack that he was carrying.

The accused -- a 34-year-old man of no fixed address -- is now charged with more than a dozen offences including drug trafficking, breaching his probation and his release conditions, dangerous driving, and driving while prohibited.

He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Suspicious person arrested near local retirement home

A 25-year-old man is in more trouble with police after he was allegedly caught carrying around a knife when he shouldn't have been and then resisted arrest when officers caught up with him.

Police said the man got their attention after officers got a call about a suspicious person around a retirement home in Chatham Tuesday night.

When officers approached the man, he allegedly walked away from police, directly into traffic on Grand Avenue. And while he was being arrested, the man also allegedly became combative in an attempt to resist arrest.

He was eventually taken into custody, charged, and then released with conditions and a future court date.
