Six new COVID-19 cases reported in CK

Half a dozen new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Chatham-Kent.

An update provided by the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit shows that the total number of reported cases in the municipality is now at 37.

Of those, 15 patients have recovered and one death has been reported.

Lori Marshall, president and CEO of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, said there are currently no COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

As of Wednesday afternoon, 1,155 Chatham-Kent residents have been tested for COVID-19 and 217 tests are pending.

Marshall said health officials started taking a different approach to testing last week and said that will continue on a larger scale moving forward.

"As early as this morning, we just received some further direction to start testing in more vulnerable populations -- people who are more asymptomatic so that means people who aren't actually showing any symptoms," she said. "So we're going to have to be thinking about how we do things differently."

The number of confirmed cases in Ontario is at 12,245, however, 6,221 cases have been resolved. New projections released by the province this week suggest the wave of new community spread cases of COVID-19 in Ontario has peaked. But health officials were quick to mention that current COVID-19 measures need to remain in place.
