Another death, 8 new cases of COVID-19 in London-area

There has been another COVID-19 related death in London-Middlesex as the total number of confirmed cases in the area climbed to 170.

The Middlesex London Health Unit reported the additional death, along with eight new cases of the virus on Thursday. The latest death brings the total number of people who have died due to COVID-19 in the region to eight.

Of the total number of confirmed cases, 15 were reported in long-term care homes, five in retirement homes, and 48 people who were infected have now recovered.

The London Health Sciences Centre currently has 27 patients in its care confirmed to have COVID-19. Nine of those patients are in intensive care – four at Victoria Hospital and five at University Hospital.

No new cases of the coronavirus were reported in Elgin and Oxford counties on Thursday.

Provincial public health officials reported Ontario has hit a grim milestone, with 200 COVID-19 related deaths now confirmed. That is an increase of 26 deaths since Wednesday.

The total number of confirmed cases across the province rose by another 483, to hit 5,759 since the outbreak began.

Of those sickened by the virus, 632 have been hospitalized, 214 of whom are in intensive care on a ventilator to help them breathe. The number of cases that have been resolved has gone up to 2,305.

There have been 622 healthcare workers who have contracted the virus and outbreaks have been reported in 69 Ontario long-term care homes.
