Man hides charging cable in his pants

Chatham-Kent police have arrested a 23-year-old man who allegedly stuffed a charging cable in his pants at Canadian Tire in Chatham and walked out without paying for it.

Police said it happened Thursday morning, adding that an employee followed the man outside and stopped him.

Officers were called in and the stolen item was recovered.

The accused is charged with theft and possession of property obtained by crime. He was released with conditions and a future court date.

No injuries after crash in Dover Township

A 38-year-old Etobicoke man is charged with failing to yield the right of way in connection with a crash just north of Chatham that caused an estimated $60,000 in damage.

Police said the charge was laid after officers were called to the scene of a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Winter Line Road and Pain Court Line at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

No injuries were reported.

Fraud charges laid after credit card reported stolen

A 27-year-old Blenheim woman is charged with fraud after a local woman reported that someone had stolen her credit card and used it to make several purchases around Chatham.

Police said a citizen reported the card was stolen earlier this month from an unlocked vehicle on Indian Creek Road.

Through their investigation, officers were able to able to identify a suspect and arrested her.

When police searched the accused, they also allegedly found some drug-related equipment on her, which is a violation of her release conditions.

The woman is now charged with two counts of failing to comply with her release conditions, one count of fraud, and four counts of unauthorized use of a credit card. She was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Man arrested after allegedly assaulting his grandma

Chatham-Kent police have arrested a 26-year-old Blenheim man who was wanted for allegedly assaulting his grandmother earlier this week when she refused to give him money.

Police said they made the arrest near Patteson Avenue while they were responding to a call about a suspicious person in the area of Inshes Avenue in Chatham Thursday afternoon.

Officers said when they searched the man, they also allegedly found some methamphetamine on him.

The accused was charged with assault and drug possession and was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Traffic enforcement south of Chatham

Drivers in Chatham-Kent appear to be listening to police when it comes to slowing down.

Police said they observed approximately 75 vehicles travelling through the area with no infractions recorded.
