Chatham-based online retailer opens local showroom

A Chatham-based clothing business is expanding and opening a new space.

Wooly Doodle hosted their Spring Soiree on Saturday, showcasing its spring items as well as show off its new headquarters and retail showroom.

The company started as a hobby in 2015 for founder Elizabeth Suni while she was on maternity leave. After watching sewing tutorials on YouTube, Suni started selling her ethical handmade clothing online from her basement.

The business started to grow and can now be found in 21 retail locations across Canada. However, Suni wanted to provide more accessibility for her Chatham-based customers and decided to open a showroom.

"This is our first opportunity to really welcome those customers in and give them an exclusive shopping opportunity where they could see and touch the product," she said.

People who attended the soiree got a sneak peek at the new showroom at 55 Forest Street in Chatham before it officially opens on March 18.

Tickets were sold during the event for various door prizes. Nearly $1,000 was raised from the tickets sales and will be donated to the Chatham-Kent Women's Centre.

"The growth of the company is largely due to the support the residents of Chatham-Kent have shown me and it’s an honour to have a space where Chatham-Kent residents can purchase our products and celebrate in a way that gives back to our local community,” Suni said.

Suni adds that although owning her own business can get stressful at times, she's been able to take time to reflect on the growth of the company and is excited about the next chapter.
