Wednesday marks Wallaceburg swimmer Madison Broad's best chance at competing in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
That according to her head coach Kyle Pinsonneault, who says the 15-year-old is racing in the 100 m backstroke preliminaries at 10am. She's been practicing in Scarborough since Monday, scaling down her workouts ahead of the competition.
"There were media cameras, which was pretty exciting for her to see," says Pinsonneault. "All the swimmers were training and finalizing their tapers. Maddie's are working real nicely, everything is fitting in nicely, we are on the right schedule."
The 100 m backstroke final takes place Wednesday night at 6pm. Broad is also competing in the 200 m backstroke on Sunday. The Olympic qualifying standards for women sit at 1:00.25 in the 100m back, and 2:10.60 for 200 m back.
