Thames River Still Higher Than Normal

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority continues to keep a watchful eye on the state of area watercourses.

They say since March 24, the Thames river has received between 50-100 mm (2-4 in.) of rain. The river is expected to peak in Thamesville Sunday night, with flooding possible in low lying river flats in northern Chatham-Kent. But the LTVCA isn't expecting levels to get higher than half a metre.

Sidewalks beside the river in Downtown Chatham are expected to stay flooded the next few days, with levels peaking Monday.

LTVCA officials add smaller local watercourses are now declining, but are still high. With more rain forecasted for Wednesday, officials expect levels to remain high until at least April 8.
