The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is posting a $1.6-million surplus for 2014.
"Many of the sources of this surplus were either one-time events or were savings that had already been incorporated in the the 2015 budget," says Gord Quinton, the director of financial services for the municipality .
Quinton says the surplus doesn't mean a spending spree is on the way.
"With the surplus, council approved putting the funds into reserves to address future one-time issues," says Quinton.
Most of the surplus — $1.1-million — is being pushed to the winter control reserve while the rest is being split bridge and police service accounts.
