Huron County's Economic Development Department has unveiled a new competition aimed at solving problems in the agricultural industry.
Economic Development Officer Alex Ripley explains that through AgPrize, they will invite people to solve a wide range of problems in the agriculture industry.
"Little technical issues, they could be procedures, they could be processes," said Ripley. "Anything that anyone in the industry, or a farm, is working through that is preventing them from growing or holding back their profits. Those are the sorts of issues we want to solve."
Ripley explains a specific problems will be illustrated through a short video on the AgPrize web site each week and contestants will be given twelve weeks to solve the problem or problems they've chosen. And new problems will be announced each week.
"We want something that is workable, relatively simple and straight forward in its solution to the problem. We're not just looking for good ideas, we're looking for good ideas that can be implemented by the industry and be translated into real world results," added Ripley.
Submissions will be judged at the end of the 12 week period and each winning submission will be worth $2020 and winners will also get some mentoring to help them get their products to market.
