The vice-president of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture has an added role.
Keith Currie, who is a Simcoe County farmer, is now chair of AgScape, formerly Ontario Agri-Food Education.
It's a not-for-profit organization providing resources to Ontario schools on agriculture, food production, environmental sustainability and related topics.
AgScape is looked after by a 12-member board and Currie is one of four new additions.
Vice-Chair Audrie Bouwmeester is an educational professional and current dairy education program manager with Dairy Farmers of Ontario. Treasurer Carolyn Hill is the financial administrator of Ontario Broiler Hatching Egg & Chick Commission. And Past Chair Lorie Jocius has served on the board since 2009, serving as chair for the last four years.
The rest of the board is filled with advisors from various sectors of government, including OMAFRA, and community seats filled by representatives from different sectors of the agriculture community including events, organizations and private companies.
All board members serve a three-year term.
Now called AgScape, the program was originally created in 1991 with the mission of building awareness and understanding of the importance of our agriculture and food system and is now celebrating 25 years.
