A smartphone app can help consumers figure out what cuts of beef to buy and how best to prepare them.
Developed for Canadian Beef, The Roundup explains where the cuts come from, how each is best prepared and includes recipe ideas.
It will even help consumers find alternative cuts if the ones they want are not available or if they're looking for a different price-point.
Joyce Parslow was involved in the development of the app.
"Steak is not just a steak - a roast is not just a roast. Some of them are pot roasts, so you manage them differently in the kitchen. You could have amazing outcomes. It actually broadens your buying ability. You can buy different kinds of cuts and enjoy different kinds of meals at different price points."
She says it's a way for the industry to speak directly to the consumer and tell the Canadian beef story.
"This actually gives them the opportunity to get to their customers directly and speak to them directly at the meat counter without having to go through that retailer doorway or entrance way."
She suggests it can help consumers make decisions at the meat counter - and at home, when they're doing their meal planning.
The app is called The Roundup - and it's available for both Android and Apple devices.
