The Canadian Cattlemen's Association says the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement has a lot of potential for this country's beef producers.
However, it's also worried there are some barriers that need to be resolved first.
According to the CCA, the most significant of those is the carcass wash interventions used in Canada to reduce the potential presence of harmful bacteria on carcasses.
Although they've been approved by Health Canada and used by Canadian processors for many years, the EU has still not approved those interventions.
The Cattlemen's Association has been working with MPs and processors to push the issue with European Union representatives.
The CCA is planning to take part in a technical mission to Europe next month to meet with EU officials who will ultimately determine whether those carcass washes will be approved.
A CCA statement says they continue to push the argument that these washes are an essential element of anti-microbial food safety controls in Canada.
