Agents with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) have been vigilant, watching for illicit weapons entering Canada.
The CBSA reported on Tuesday via social media that between September 20 and September 27, there were five weapons-related seizures and eight arrests of U.S. residents at the three Windsor crossings.
On September 20, agents seized a can of pepper spray and a firearm at the Gordie Howe International Bridge (GHIB). Agents arrested the traveller and fined them $1,500.
An inspection on September 24 at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel uncovered a firearm, a magazine, 29 rounds of ammunition, a can of pepper spray, a pair of nunchaku, a CBD beverage, and personal amounts of magic mushrooms and dried cannabis. The two Americans were charged and fined $2,000.
Three seizures were completed on September 27.
At the Ambassador Bridge, two Americans were arrested and fined $1,500 for bringing a firearm and a magazine.
Two more U.S. residents were arrested at the GHIB for having a firearm and five rounds of ammunition. They were fined $1,000.
Also at the GHIB, a prohibited firearm was seized from a U.S. national who was fined $1,000.
The CBSA also reported weapon seizures during the week at the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls and the Peace Bridge in Fort Erie.
In total, ten illegally imported firearms, eight magazines, three prohibited weapons, and 67 rounds of ammo were confiscated by CBSA agents.
