Big Brothers Big Sisters Windsor-Essex will offer in-school mentoring to more than 500 students this year thanks to funding from the provincial government.
Big Brothers Big Brothers agencies across the province will offer similar programming to more than 10,000 young people with an investment of $1,485,000.
“Mentoring is prevention. When a young person has a caring adult in their corner, they have someone to listen, encourage and support them through the challenges they face—and to help them see what is possible for their future. This investment allows us to bring those meaningful relationships into more schools and reach more young people when they need that support most. We are grateful to the Government of Ontario for recognizing the important role mentoring plays in helping young people build confidence, connection and resilience, and reach their full potential.”
This programming has been offered since 2008.
“Students deserve to feel safe, empowered and respected in schools, and we will continue to ensure they have the tools needed to support their mental health and wellbeing. Our government continues to focus on building a stronger, modern education system that strengthens student achievement and prepares them for success in the future,” said Paul Calandra, Minister of Education.
The mentorship program is offered to primary and secondary school students.
