In his latest campaign plan, Windsor mayoral candidate Drew Dilkens promised to expand community safety measures.
At the top of his list is funding a real-time operations centre for the Windsor Police Service and expanding Project Greenlight to other Business Improvement Areas in the city.
"I strongly support the implementation of a real-time operations centre because it allows us to take the resources that we have from a policing perspective, which are expensive police are expensive resources that the city has to pay for, but it allows us to use those in a more effective way," said Dilkens.
He said he'd also like to see more proactive by-law outreach into all wards.
"This is about taking the best practices that we learned downtown with the dedicated by-law officer and then embedding them. The solution is not always policing, the solution is actually proper resources whether they're social resources or nursing resources both to respond in tandem. It's about sending the right people out to the right place at the right time in a pro-active way to make sure that we're making a difference," said Dilkens.
As another aspect of community safety, Dilkens says he'll advocate for more active transportation features, sidewalks and street lighting in neighbourhoods.
