The University of Windsor is offering students a new accelerated pathway to medical school.
The pathway will allow qualified students from any undergraduate program to transition to the American Canadian School of Medicine (ACSOM) after as little as two years.
Beginning in fall 2026, students who meet the required academic and ACSOM admission conditions can pursue a route leading to both a UWindsor undergraduate degree and an ACSOM Doctor of Medicine degree in as little as six years.
“This pathway significantly expands what is possible for University of Windsor students who aspire to careers in medicine,” said J.J. McMurtry, president and vice-chancellor. “Students can pursue the undergraduate field that interests them while gaining access to a clear, accelerated route that can lead to both a UWindsor degree and an MD.”
Students begin their studies at the University of Windsor and then transition to the ACSOM in Dominica if they meet the requirements.
“The American Canadian School of Medicine is committed to creating new opportunities for qualified Canadian students to pursue medical education,” says Dr. Andrew Padmos, ACSOM’s executive vice-president for Canada. “Our partnership with the University of Windsor creates a new pathway for students while strengthening connections between medical education and the Windsor region.”
Graduates seeking to practice medicine in Canada must meet applicable examination, residency and provincial licensing requirements.
