The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) was busy during the third week of August at two of Windsor's three border crossings.
Between August 18 and 23, CBSA agents at the Ambassador Bridge and the new Gordie Howe International Bridge (GHIB) stopped four American residents and confiscated assorted weapons, ammunition, and cannabis products.
On Tuesday, August 18, a prohibited firearm, a magazine, and six rounds of ammunition were seized at the GHIB. Officers arrested the U.S. citizen and fined them $1,000.
Two incidents occurred on Saturday, August 22, at the GHIB. In the first, a restricted firearm, a prohibited firearm, and two magazines were seized. The U.S. resident was arrested and fined $2,500.
In the second incident, agents confiscated two prohibited firearms, 948 rounds of ammunition, a magazine, a prohibited crossbow, and 16 cans of cannabis-infused beverages. The U.S. resident was arrested and fined $3,000.
Finally, CBSA agents at the Ambassador Bridge seized a prohibited firearm on Sunday, August 23. The traveller was arrested and fined $1,000.
The CBSA said that within seven days, a total of 15 illegally imported firearms, over a thousand rounds of ammunition, and 12 magazines were confiscated from American residents at points of entry in Windsor, Fort Erie, and Niagara Falls.
