Windsor City Council to review wages, start times, and ward boundaries next term

Windsor City Council meetings could look a lot different in four years.

Councillors elected in the fall will be asked to make decisions about start times, wages, and ward boundaries.

On Monday night, current councillors made a series of motions asking the administration to establish a compensation review and to evaluate full-time versus part-time status for councillors.

"That conversation should happen, full-time/part-time; that decision will drive future compensation decisions," said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. "It's only moving in the direction of becoming a full-time position."

Administration was also asked to look into a review of ward boundaries, which has not been done since 2010.

Based on the motions, all of the reviews will begin mid-term, in 2028, to be complete before the 2030 election.

Council start times were also heavily debated, but in the end council voted to leave that decision up to the next council.

"In the spirit of making sure that anybody and everybody in this community has a chance to run for council or run for the mayor's seat, I think what's important is leaving it as wide open as you possibly can," said Councillor Renaldo Agostino.

Finally, each councillor's base salary will also increase by $5,000 after this year's election. To make up the increase, the mayor's salary will be reduced by around $50,000 to $182,840.
