Search for missing boater ends in tragedy

The search for a missing boater on Lake St. Clair has ended tragically.

The Ontario Provincial Police Underwater Search and Recovery Unit located the body of a 38-year-old Windsor resident in the water just after 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The boater had been reported missing on Saturday night when the boat didn't return to a marina near Belle River.

The boater was last seen struggling in the water, so the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre and the Canadian Coast Guard began their search.

"The OPP would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all our emergency service partners, community residents, and to the boating community for their assistance, and to everyone who provided information surrounding this incident," read a release from the OPP. "Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with all the family members and friends at this time."
