Trio of teens arrested after alleged vehicle theft from U of W campus

Three teens have been arrested after Windsor police say they stole a vehicle and drove it recklessly.

The theft occurred around 8 a.m. on Saturday, on College Avenue near the University of Windsor campus. Somehow, the three suspects got the keys from someone using a locker room, found the vehicle parked in a nearby lot, and drove off.

Officers then responded to a report of reckless driving just before 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, on Brock Street near Millen Street. The vehicle was found on Wells Street near Strathmore Avenue and turned out to be the same one stolen from College Avenue that morning.

Two 14-year-old boys and a 15-year-old boy were soon arrested.

The suspects, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, are each charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, motor vehicle theft, and theft under $5,000.

The charges have not been proven in court.
