Last Friday, the share purchase transaction for E.L.K. Energy officially closed, and Enwin assumed full management of the utility.
The transaction marks the end of the Town of Essex's comprehensive review of the utility. The review concluded that transferring ownership to Enwin would better serve customers in Essex, Lakeshore, and Kingsville.
"E.L.K. Energy customers will continue to receive bills under the E.L.K. Energy brand as usual, with no immediate changes to the billing structure, rates, or service during the integration period," said a release. The transition is expected to take years.
The two utilities will continue to operate independently. Contact information, hours, and the support process won't change, and customers with questions are encouraged to contact E.L.K. Energy directly.
Any future rate changes will comply with the regulatory guidelines set by the Ontario Energy Board.
"We are confident that this transaction will not only strengthen the infrastructure that E.L.K. Energy needs to provide affordable, reliable energy, but will also ensure those needs are met for generations to come," said Essex Mayor Sherry Bondy. "Enwin Utilities is well-equipped to enhance E.L.K.'s existing operations and infrastructure across its service area."
