Hamilton driver charged in crash on Hwy. 401

The Ontario Provincial Police remind drivers to slow down when approaching service vehicles on highways after a crash on Tuesday on Hwy. 401.

Around 8:49 a.m., a tractor-trailer slammed into a so-called crash truck in the eastbound lanes in LaSalle.

Crash trucks are equipped with a crash attenuator, which absorbs the impact of a collision, protecting workers at a construction site.

The driver of the tractor-trailer wasn't hurt, but the person operating the crash truck was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

"The OPP reminds motorists to use extreme caution and lower speeds when approaching service vehicles conducting repairs and maintenance on our highways," read a release from the OPP. "These workers use all necessary safety precautions to allow them to complete their work each day and return home safely to their families."

A 47-year-old man from Hamilton is charged with careless driving.
