UPDATE: Nexpress back online at Windsor-Detroit Tunnel

An issue with a pre-paid toll system at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel has been corrected.

The Nexpress system went back online Tuesday evening, about 24 hours after it was shut down due to an issue with a system upgrade.

Tunnel CEO Tal Czudner told WindsorNewsToday.ca on Tuesday that the glitch happened during a data transfer.

"We were migrating some of the data between Windsor and Detroit. Too much data was sent over by one of our contractors. That caused a loop, so a lot of the customer information cycled through multiple times," said Czudner.

He said officials realized some customers were being charged multiple times on their credit cards.

All the tolls were reduced on Tuesday morning, but have now been brought back to normal levels.

The Tunnel has apologized for the inconvenience, and anyone who was charged multiple times will have the extra charges reversed. Any refunds should be processed within seven days.
