Just Your Average Joe's Sports Bar has had its liquor licence suspended for 60 days.
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario suspended the licence for the alleged service of a patron who was involved in a fatal car crash.
The crash happened just after 11 p.m. on September 7, 2024, about 500 metres from the bar. Windsor police reported the collision involoved a motorcycle and another vehicle.
The driver of the motorcycle was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and was later pronounced dead.
Police charged the driver of the other vehicle with impaired driving causing death and impaired driving causing bodily harm.
An AGCO inspection concluded the driver had consumed at least 10 alcoholic beverages at the bar before leaving.
"Restaurants and bars that serve alcohol have a responsibility to patrons and the wider community to help prevent tragic incidents such as this one. It’s both a moral and a legal obligation to operate responsibly and prevent customers from becoming intoxicated in their establishments,” said Karin Schnarr, Chief Executive Officer and Registrar, AGCO.
An establishment has the right to appeal this decision within 15 days of being served.
