Hospital urges public to check measles vaccinations

Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) has asked parents to ensure their kids' measles immunizations are up to date.

Classes begin for thousands of local students on Tuesday, and health officials say that despite a decline in measles cases, it is still a risk.

"Measles is a highly contagious virus that can lead to serious health complications, particularly in young children and those with compromised immune systems," read a release from the hospital.

Visitor restrictions remain in place at both WRH campuses. Visitors under 16 are not permitted except on compassionate grounds.

If you have an appointment at the hospital and believe you've been exposed, call (519) 254-5577, dial 0 for the switchboard, and ask to speak with the department that your appointment is in ahead of your scheduled day and time.

Complete information on measles immunizations can be found on the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit's official website.
