An Amherstburg man has been arrested in the North Bay area after police say he ran from officers and damaged police cruisers.
North Bay police say they received a call from Windsor police on the evening of July 29, concerning an active investigation.
The man was also being sought by North Bay investigators on charges of cocaine trafficking and fleeing a peace officer.
The suspect was located by North Bay officers, but when they tried to immobilize him using two police cruisers, the man struck the vehicles and fled.
Officers from the OPP's Parry Sound detachment soon located the suspect, took him into custody, and brought him back to North Bay.
"Criminals operate without borders, across the province and within our communities, and it is imperative that our police services and members do so as well," said North Bay Police Inspector Scott McFarlane in a media release. "This arrest highlights the importance of inter-agency cooperation and the commitment of our officers, who acted quickly and effectively to locate and apprehend a wanted individual who posed a significant risk to public safety. Despite dangerous circumstances, officers persisted in their efforts and brought this incident to a safe conclusion."
The charges have not been proven in court. The 28-year-old man was held pending a show cause hearing.
