There's a new online tool available to help young people in Windsor-Essex who are looking for a job.
The Youth Employment Portal was developed by Workforce WindsorEssex as part of its Youth Employment Work Plan. The plan identified several barriers to employment, including lack of confidence, access to transportation, and skills development.
The site not only provides job listings but also opportunities for certifications, mental health resources, and resume-building tools.
"Our goal is to ease the exploration process. We want youth to find the resources that they're looking for as easily as possible, we want everything to be accessible as possible, we want youth-friendly language," said Mikal Fakhreddin, Project Coordinator and Research Analyst.
The Youth Employment Work Plan was developed with $189,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
Last year, Windsor-Essex had the highest youth unemployment rate in the country at 18.2 per cent. Youth unemployment is, on average, 2.4 per cent higher than the unemployment rate for ages 25 and over.
