Windsor police issue alert after three overdoses in one day

Windsor police are reminding residents of the dangers of opioid use, after a series of overdoses was reported.

Police responded to three suspected overdoses within 24 hours. One was fatal.

"We are sharing this as an urgent reminder of the continued risk posed by the local drug supply," police said in a social media post. "Alongside the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, we’re urging everyone to take steps to stay safe and protect each other."

Signs of a potential overdose include bluish lips and nails, dizziness, difficulty waking the person, choking or gurgling sounds, slow or weak breathing, drowsiness, or difficulty staying awake.

If someone is experiencing these symptoms, use naloxone and call 911 immediately.

Police also suggest not using alone. Use with someone you trust, or call a supervised consumption line like the National Overdose Response Service at 1-888-688-6677.

Complete information on the use of naloxone kits can be found on the health unit's official website.
