Convoy Technologies is launching production at its new plant in Tecumseh this month.
The Indiana-based company manufactures cameras, monitors, and accessories for heavy-duty on-and-off-road vehicles.
The company has been working with Invest WindsorEssex and the Town of Tecumseh since 2022 to establish its footprint in the region.
"We view this as gradually becoming the centrepiece of the company," said President Ron Harker. "As we build additional things like additional technical activity, additional production activity, all of those things will take place here."
The $17-million investment from the company was supported with a $323,984 grant from the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund.
"What Convoy has to offer is a brand new industry that we don't have here that's complementary to what exists. In many ways, the sky is the limit," said Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie.
Currently, the plant employs around 20 people but is expected to employ 35-50 people as it grows.
"The talent pool here in the region is incredible. The feeder system that's in place, and maybe folks that have lived their entire lives here don't realize how unusual it is to have the feeder system that's in place right here in this region for engineering talent, production talent, everything," said Harker.
The 18,000 square-foot facility is located on Binder Crescent in Oldcastle.
