Windsor updates truck routes throughout the municipality

The City of Windsor is adjusting truck routes throughout the municipality with the Gordie Howe International Bridge coming on line late this year.

"When that opens later this year, I think you'll see a material change in terms of traffic flow and trucks crossing the border," said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. "We need to work with lots of different partners to try and find the different routes that are most appropriate recognizing that there are businesses throughout the city that require truck access."

City staff have been advised to continue to monitor traffic as new patterns emerge after the bridge opens.

New truck routes will be added, including parts of Broadway Street, Sandwich Street, 7th Concession, Catherine Street and Essex Way.

Other routes have been removed from the truck routes like parts of St. Luke Road, Windsor Avenue, Pillette Avenue and Parent Avenue.

About 212 signs will be installed throughout the city this year to designate the new routes.
