OPP to implement CAMSafe database on Monday

The Ontario Provincial Police in Essex County hopes residents will sign up for their new CAMSafe program.

The program will create a database of registered security cameras in the community, which they can access to gather information while investigating crimes.

Officers won't be able to access security cameras and cloud-based accounts unless they request it from the property owner. The database includes contact information.

Those interested in registering are only required to provide basic contact information and camera location but have the option of including details like what direction a camera faces, footage retention information, and screenshots of the camera view.

Account holders can change their information or delete the account at any time.

The program will be implemented on Monday, June 23.
