ERCA pausing disc golf at Holiday Beach

The Essex Region Conservation Authority is pausing plans to open a nine-hole disc golf course at Holiday Beach.

The board of directors approved the Holiday Beach Management Plan in April which included the disc-golf proposal.

More than 100 people attended an open house this week to discuss the proposal. ERCA said most of those people were opposed to the location of the proposed course.

“We’re now going to pause and re-evaluate if disc golf might be compatible in an alternative location, as it is quite clear that the majority of those in attendance at the meeting do not support the proposed location,” said Kevin Money, ERCA's Director of Conservation Services.

Currently, the park offers seasonal camping, hunting, bird watching and banding, educational field trips and a playground.

“When we took over park management in 1987, only 21% of the park was natural habitat,” Money said. “Since that time, we’ve planted trees and naturalized parcels so that habitat now measures 63%.”
