Plan to wind down tunnel bus service finalized

The tunnel bus will stop operating for regular weekly commuter service as of August 31.

Transit Windsor will continue to offer special events service until December 20, 2025.

The schedule was approved by Windsor City Council during Monday's council meeting.

Staff determined that revenue from continuing the special events service will help offset some of the costs needed for the paid medical leave days mandated by federal labour legislation.

By eliminating the weekly commuter service, more resources will be available for service enhancements scheduled to come into effect in September.

In February, Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens decided to cancel the $1.6 million service as part of this year's budget deliberations. He needed to veto council's vote to keep the service using the strong mayor legislation.

By eliminating the service, Transit Windsor will no longer be subject to federal labour legislation.
