Man arrested after downtown shooting

A 25-year-old man is facing charges after a shooting in downtown Windsor early Wednesday.

Windsor police were called to the area of Riverside Drive East and Pierre Street around 3 a.m. for a report of a person with a firearm.

Police reported a woman with a gunshot wound to her arm was discovered and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers also found a spent shell casing and a bullet hole in a home.

A suspect was identified. He was arrested at a home on Crawford Avenue just before 5:30 a.m.

The man was charged with aggravated assault, discharging a firearm recklessly to the life or safety of another person, pointing a firearm, and failure to comply with a release order.

Windsor police said they believe this was a targeted incident.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Windsor Police Major Crimes Unit at 519-255-6700 ext. 4830.

Single traffic stop results in 18 charges

A routine traffic stop turned into a major enforcement action last week when the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Traffic Management Unit laid 18 charges against a commercial vehicle operator in Mapleton Township.
