A girls' hockey team in Windsor-Essex has won the 2025 Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup.
The Lakeshore Lightning's U-11 team was officially announced as the winner on Saturday during the second intermission of Hockey Night in Canada.
A $100,000 prize will now be presented to the team's charity of choice which is the Cancer Research Collaboration Fund's Play for a Cure.
Lakeshore Mayor Tracey Bailey was quick to congratulate the Lightning on social media.
"They have shown, throughout the campaign, what it means to build community and to put others first. They have also shown that our community, like a team, can’t succeed as individuals. We need leaders, young people like them, to lead by example and encourage us to see the importance of supporting our neighbours and providing for those in need," she said.
Second and third-place teams also received $20,000 and $10,000, respectively, for their charities of choice.
