Dilkens open to extend operations of school extras until end of 2025

Students who depend on Transit Windsor's school extras may be able to catch a ride for a little longer.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens indicated he's willing to work with the school boards to offer service to the students who may be left behind after Transit Windsor implements the 2025 service upgrades.

"Where there are students in places that are left behind that is what I want to look at. How we can help fill in the gap to get to the end of the year and give the school boards time to fix the problem that may exist," said Dilkens.

In 2025, Transit Windsor will add over 7,000 service hours to existing and new routes throughout the city.

Dilkens said he'll use savings from cancelling the tunnel bus or the Grand Prix sponsorship to cover costs until the end of 2025 if necessary.

"[School boards] have 11 months, including a whole summer to figure out how to get a couple of school buses and drive around and pick up the students that need to get to school that are outside of the school board's existing policy," said Dilkens.
