Windsor Fire and Rescue crews were called to the blaze on Sandwich Street near Rosedale Avenue around 6:30 a.m. Monday.
A 71-year-old woman was found inside and was taken to the hospital. She was later pronounced deceased.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal was notified and an investigator will be on the scene on Monday.
Alan Smith will begin his new role with the municipality on July 20.
