Windsor police say some drivers aren't getting the message when it comes to operating while impaired.
The Traffic Enforcement Unit reported on Tuesday that there were seven impaired driving arrests since November 27.
The latest was at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. Officers responded to a crash on Tecumseh Road West off South Pacific Avenue. They learned that a driver crashed into a commercial sign and ended up in a field. The vehicle sustained major damage.
The 31-year-old woman allegedly had slurred speech, glassy eyes, and a strong odour of alcohol. She was charged with impaired driving.
"Driving under the influence is not only against the law, but it puts the lives of innocent people at risk," said Windsor Police Sergeant Craig Judson. "As the holiday season approaches, we implore everyone to plan ahead before consuming alcohol or drugs. Make alternate arrangements, such as using a designated driver or a rideshare service, to get home safely."
Windsor police are participating in the holiday Festive RIDE program, cracking down on impaired drivers from now through January 1, 2025.
