Catholic school board of trustees elect new Chair and Vice-Chair

The Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board has elected a new chair and vice-chair for its board of trustees.

Trustee Lisa Souilliere was elected the chair, while Trustee Jason Lazarus will fill the vice-chair role at the board's organizational meeting Tuesday night.

"My hope for each of us is that we will evolve as collaborative, engaging leaders over the next year to best serve our communities," said Souilliere.

Souilliere, representing schools in Area 3-Lakeshore Ward, replaces former Chair Fulvio Valentinis, and Lazarus, representing Windsor Wards 5 and 8, takes over from Trustee Mary DiMenna.

Souilliere has served as a Trustee of the Catholic school board since 2000 and as vice-chair from 2018 to 2022. She's also served on the Indigenous Education Advisory Committee, the Special Education Advisory Committee, the Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee and the Child Care Committee.

Lazarus is a first-term trustee who was elected in 2022. He's served on the Parent Involvement Committee.

"It's an honour for me to serve in this position," said Lazarus. "I look forward to continuing the good work that parents and students connected to this school board have come to expect from us."

Valentinis was chair of the board since 2019, and DiMenna served as vice-chair from 2009 to 2017 but returned to that position in 2023. Both remain on the board as Trustees.
