Essex County communities receive $9.8M in infrastructure funding

Five Essex County municipalities and the County will split funding from Queens Park to help fund infrastructure projects.

Essex MPP Anthony Leardi announced on Friday that $9,859,700 will be distributed across the riding through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF).

"The Ontario Government is investing in Essex County to get the job done,” said Leardi. "These investments will allow us to build more homes and more businesses, which means people who grow up in Essex County can stay here, work here, and buy a house here."

The money will be distributed as follows.

  • Amherstburg - $2,173,262

  • Essex - $1,189,700

  • Kingsville - $1,312,047

  • LaSalle: $1,119,363

  • Lakeshore: $2,525,049

The County of Essex will receive $1,540,279.

The OCIF funds infrastructure projects in communities across the province with a population below 100,000, plus local service boards that own water and wastewater systems.

If a municipality prefers, it can accumulate funding for up to five years to address larger infrastructure projects.
