Coats for Kids needs 7,000 winter coats

The UHC Hub of Opportunities is looking to collect over 7,000 coats for this year's Coats for Kids campaign.

The collection drive kicked off Friday and runs until the first week of November.

"People are not able to afford to pay their rent, buy food, so how are they going to buy a coat?" asked June Muir CEO of the UHC Hub of Opportunities. "Knowing what's happening in our food bank and with other food banks we know that the need will increase so we want to be ready."

All the collected coats will be cleaned with the help of community partner Cintas.

Muir encourages any community group or volunteers looking to collect coats for the community to call the UHC so they can work together.

"If you're a person that really wants to get involved and you're running a coat drive call us, let's collaborate together and let's give our coats out together," said Muir.

The coats will be distributed early in November to youth and adults in the community.
