Glengarry neighbourhood initiative has positive public safety results

After two major arrest blitzes in the Glengarry neighbourhood Windsor police say they will use crime statistic data to further their community safety initiative.

Since August, over 50 people have been arrested and charged with over 100 offences ranging from assault to breach of bail conditions.

The Windsor Police Service has partnered with Family Services Windsor-Essex and the Canadian Mental Health Association to offer support services to the residents in the area.

"We're always going to respond when it comes to public safety but at the end of the day we are looking at more of a multi-pronged approach. What's been done in the past is not really working and when we talk about services we're talking about being more real time then more of a reactive approach," said Superintendent of Investigation Paolo DiCarlo.

DiCarlo said he understands the frustration in the neighbourhood that many of the people arrested are released on bail after a short time.

"I think the victims and the people that live there are just trying to reside there without any interruptions. They're the ones being inconvenienced because we are constantly there to make these arrests on these bail compliance issues," said DiCarlo.
