Man charged with arson in Amherstburg fire

Windsor police's Amherstburg detachment wasted no time arresting a suspect in an overnight fire.

Officers responded shortly before midnight on Wednesday to a business on Sandwich Street South near Alma Street. They spotted clouds of smoke billowing from the property and noticed a man lying on the ground nearby.

Amherstburg firefighters arrived and put the fire out.

The man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. However, it was determined by police that the man was allegedly responsible for setting the fire.

The 31-year-old man has been charged with arson. The count has not been proven in court.

There were no other injuries reported.
