While you may be seeing reports of another wave of COVID-19 spreading across the United States, the local medical officer of health says the province is not having the same experience.
"We don't see a significant increase in the number of outbreaks and deaths, these are the two indicators that are still reported to us," said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Mehdi Aloosh.
He indicated historically there can be a slight rise of the virus in the summer months which is unusual compared to other respiratory viruses.
There have been three outbreaks of COVID-19 reported at long-term care homes this month, last month there were five.
"We see a little bit of an increase compared to the month of June, so we saw that the number of outbreaks decreased until June and then they increased a little bit but not so much," said Dr. Aloosh.
As back-to-school time approaches Dr. Aloosh recommends reminding children about proper hand washing techniques and updating all vaccines.
A new COVID-19 vaccine will not be released until October or November.
