Windsor-Essex bicyclists and walkers now have another option for recreation and exercise.
A new multi-use pathway is operational along County Road 2 East in Kingsville. The path, designed to improve connectivity and accessibility in the area, was improved thanks to a $1-million federal grant via the Active Transportation Fund.
"Increasing access to active transit routes is an investment that bolsters sustainable transportation options," said Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk, who is also the parliamentary secretary to the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Official Languages. "This project in Kingsville demonstrates the ongoing effort from the federal government to build safe, accessible, and healthy communities."
Kingsville Mayor Dennis Rogers said the upgraded 3.65-kilometre pathway is a key component of the town's long-term strategy.
"The construction of the multi-use pathway on Road 2 has not only enhanced the safety and accessibility of our town but has also provided more active transportation and exercise opportunities for the overall well-being of our residents," said Rogers. "This project aligned perfectly with our Kingsville 2040 Strategic Plan Priority number three, Happy Healthy Residents. We thank the federal government for their generous investment in our community."
The pathway includes new lighting and curbs.
The federal Active Transportation Fund is a five-year, $400-million sum designed to support non-vehicular transportation across Canada.
