One Windsor-Essex community has asked its residents for input on when Halloween should be celebrated.
The Town of Kingsville has started an online survey, to ask people how they would feel if trick-or-treating was held on the last Saturday of October, regardless of which day of the week the 31st fell on.
"Halloween falls on a Thursday this year, but some people believe it should always be on a Saturday," read the survey.
Supporters of the idea believe having Halloween on a Saturday may be safer since trick-or-treating could begin while it is still light out, and it could be less stressful since kids and parents would not have to rush home from school or work to get ready.
Those in favour also believe that students could focus on their studies rather than have their minds wander with thoughts of the evening ahead.
Critics believe moving Halloween to Saturday would mean more kids on the streets during one of the more dangerous nights of the week, additional alcohol or drug consumption, or giving people more time to engage in often cruel pranks. Detractors also believe it would throw out the tradition of celebrating Halloween on October 31.
